IBS Dr. Klaus Schnürer GmbH

In 2012 the planning office IBS commissioned BKR to capture a robot cell for welding robots at an automotive supplier. This robot cell was captured in 3D and a interfering edge model was created.

A robot cell represents a certain work process which is carried out by several robots. In this case the robot cell was to be retrofitted.
The interfering edge model is needed to determine in a simulation the degree of freedom and the interfering edges in the operating range of the new robots. Thus the robots can be optimally programmed to avoid colliding with the surroundings when moving or turning.

The model was created in Cyclone and in MicroStation. The finished CAD model is structured: different objects, as e.g. cable trays or a protective wall are filed in different layers.

Our client was able to convey the model to his simulation software RobCAD via the interface STEP (a standard interface in the automotive sector and industry).

Accurateness: +- 3 mm for regional single spot in the point cloud. 29 scans were necessary for the as-built surveying of the cell. There was no production downtime, as the scans where done at the weekend.
